Approaching the Wave

I’ve been thinking of my childhood experiences at and in the ocean as August closes its 2021 chapter. I remember spending much time in the water when my family would go to the beach. Oh how I loved and feared the ocean. I always thought I was stronger than I was and was constantly reminded that the ocean has its own rhythm and immense power. It’s an entity, a world unto itself. I found that the world of the ocean was filled with moments, split seconds of time when I was asked to sense my relationship to and position in the water, and to sense the same for the tide, for those around me, and for the oncoming waves.
Over the last year and a half I have heard many surfing metaphors and have used the term, "Oh I'm just riding the wave," when asked how I was doing. This time of year has a sentimental and reminiscing flavor for me. There's something about the approach of September that invites me to take stock of where I've been and where I want to go. In many ways I have been riding the wave, a wave, many waves this year. Some have tossed me into the water and some have been beautiful rides. It all reminds me of walking into the ocean from the shore's edge and assessing if I can float over the approaching wave, if I can dive into and underneath it, or if it will just take me. And I will most definitely get salt water up my nose! I guess I needed to taste the crash of the waves and have all those experiences so I can recognize and enjoy the ride when the next wave comes.
What are you noticing as we close August? What is speaking to you in nature? Are you reminiscing as well? I'd love to hear from you, drop me an email.
Much love to you and your spirit,
Sara
