rooted & rising:
sacred Tools for grounding through CHANGE
A WEEKEND WOMEN’S RETREAT
September 26 - 29, 2024
Pownal, Maine
Our collective culture is on a potent journey of change and transformation. We continue to be in times of war not only abroad but within the societal structures of the United States, within our governmental systems, families, and communities. The spirit of this change lands differently for each of us and impacts us all at unique pitches. As women experiencing this type of collective change, it can feel like everything those before us fought for is falling apart. This can invite in confrontation, fear, and discomfort along with promise and the spirit of revolution.
You might be redefining the concepts of community, family, safety, and security. Your personal redefinition pathway might require you to engage with new perspectives. You may need to ground and connect to the Divine in a whole new way. Your new perspective might be asking you to transform even though what you will transform into is not yet clear.
Women have been gathering for centuries. We have come together in ceremony and ritual for personal and community celebrations, celestial events, and memorials. The times we are in are calling for us to come back together as our vibrant ancestors did, to bear witness to one another and call in sacred change. Join us for a four day retreat where you will be supported while together we explore what embodying a sense of grounded connection can look like and feel like in these shifting times.
This women’s retreat welcomes all trans and cis women, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in an environment that delves into the experiences of women.
Gift yourself with sacred time to process and unwind in a safe and brave energetic container. Nestled on the coast of Maine, Rooted and Rising Retreat is located at Maine Mystic Gardens, 4 1/2 acres of land welcoming you home to peace and tranquility with many beautiful flower beds, a rock garden, orchard, vegetable garden, Meditation Hut, and Frog Pond, all surrounded by trees.

Session & workshop descriptions
Nature's Abundance: A Walk through the Fields and Woods
On your walk with Anna across the field and into the woods you will attune yourself with The Great Mother and connect with nature spirits. Anna will also support you in exploring the edible and medicinal abundance that surrounds us.
Growing Your Inner Council
Through facilitated discussion, guided meditation, journaling, music and self-guided meditation with the drum, Sara will support you in exploring and discovering new forms of internal support within your soul's diverse landscape and new external support in the compassionate spirit world. Guidance for healing, discernment, and support in centering within change may arrive in many forms. The deeper and more practiced we become in grounding and connecting with the Divine, the easier it becomes to love more freely and hold compassionate space for ourselves and others. Sara works through and within a shamanic and animist lens. This workshop has been designed for all levels of experience in shamanic journeying and meditation. Whether you just started exploring meditation, shamanism, or the shamanic journey, or you are a seasoned practitioner, this practice is for you.
Heart Breathwork
Britney will guide our divine community of breathers into a Heart Breath session to explore the goodness of our heart, identify any areas of tension or blockages, and provide a safe place to release what no longer serves us as individuals and a collective. Heart Breath uses conscious circular breathing in addition to science from the HeartMath Institute to induce a state of meditative breathing followed by somatic release. Heart Breath is a process of tapping into the wisdom of the body, energetics of the heart, and power of the breath to build resiliency in our nervous system and emotional bodies. After the session she will invite us into an art therapy session called Heart Art where we will draw, paint, and dance the images of our heart onto paper as a keepsake reminder of the new connection we built together uniting our hearts for deeper healing.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING.
“My retreat experience was absolutely outstanding. The hosts were warm and welcoming, the teachers were knowledgeable and the workshops were diverse and very interesting! It was all so very relevant! I have been going to retreats for over 30 years and this retreat was as good as any retreat’s workshops I have attended even at Omega or Kripalu.”
-Christine U.
“Anna and Sara were so kind, understanding, and welcoming. Sara does such a good job guiding meditation. Her Unitarian approach to spirituality was so inclusive. The material we covered really helped me gain clarity and reconnect with myself and learn ways to heal. The food was out of this world, tasty and nourishing. I felt such a strong connection between the women I shared this experience with. When women come together, we are unstoppable! I cannot wait to attend another!”
-Katie O.
“I can’t express how amazing this retreat was. The detail that went into this and the contributions are incredible. The amount of synchronicity I am seeing and feeling starting from months before the retreat to days after make me feel so supported, mind, body and soul. I have never experienced anything like it; broken open in a good way and so loved and nurtured by Sara and Anna but also by every single woman there, both in the physical and beyond, and definitely by nature and the land. I feel empowered but not in a fierce,“I’m ready to take on the world “ fierce way, but in the softest loving way. It’s like I want to shower everyone I come in contact with love and compassion. I’m not sure I have ever felt this nurtured in my whole life. The world, the universe, needs more of this Sisterhood! There is so much magic weaved! Acceptance, nurturing, compassion, connection, love, support. Every single woman offered something beautiful to the tapestry of this retreat. My cup is truly full! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

Shamanic Practitioner & Fiber ArtistGrowing up, I didn’t have a context to place my otherworldly experiences into. It wasn’t until I found shamanism and animism that my internal lens came into greater focus. Finally there was a framework to understand my otherworldly communications, interactions and downloads. Soon I came to realize that I spent most of my life outside of my body. My personal work was to develop tools to create healthy boundaries and daily ritual to ground myself and my body with the Divine. The practice of shamanism has brought me back into my body. It has allowed me to feel safe within. Shamanic practice grounds me. It helps me create space within myself to live and to travel safely. Can't wait to share space and time with you!

Intuitive Guide, Herbalist, Sound Healing Practitioner & Energy HealerBefore embarking on my greatest adventure, motherhood, I traveled for many years and to many different countries around the world, experiencing different ways of seeing reality and ways to heal our body, mind, and soul. While living in Nepal I spent months learned to use Tibetan singing bowls to balance and harmonize with the sound. Since I've been living in Maine I have deeply connected with the abundance of food and medicine that we are fortunate enough to have here surrounding us. We have mushrooms that are some of the most prized healing substances used in the world right in our back yard! I studied herbs for a year with Gail Faith Edwards and have attended classes taught by Arthur Haines. I look forward to learning and growing together and celebrating and healing together!

Britney Welch, BSN, RN
During my 13 years experience as a nurse in mainstream healthcare I struggled with several episodes of burn out leading to anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances and apathy. In an attempt to explore alternative modalities to help navigate the emotions that were becoming increasingly stored in my body, I discovered Heart Breath and my life has been revolutionized ever since. It is my pleasure and honor to share these practices with you all as we build a deeper connection with our breath, bodies and hearts.
Britney will be offering our Heart Breath workshop where she will guide our divine community of breathers to explore the goodness of our heart, identify any areas of tension or blockages, and provide a safe place to release what no longer serves us as individuals and a collective. After the session she will invite us into an art therapy session called Heart Art where we will draw, paint, and dance the images of our heart onto paper as a keepsake reminder of the new connection we built together uniting our hearts for deeper healing.

Rosemary Lyda, LAC., Dipl.OM
Rosemary is an acupuncturist licensed in the state of Maine and Montana. As a child Rosemary grew up receiving acupuncture and found that it helped her with food sensitivities. Some of her family pets also had a significant improvement in health after acupuncture treatments therefore, she was inspired to utilize acupuncture as a tool to help people and animals. Patients who have seen her have reported a dramatic reduction in pain, increased digestive function, menstrual cycle improvements, migraine reduction and a significant decrease in stress and anxiety after receiving acupuncture. Rosemary loves supporting each patient's body so that it can heal itself. She is a certified auricular acupuncture practitioner.
Rosemary will be offering community acupuncture sessions during the retreat where she will create a individualized treatment plan for everyone who participates. She will also be offering a Qi Gong session which is a gentle exercise that strengthens and supports the movement of qi or energy thru the body. During the retreat she will start with a grounding/rooting qi gong and will pair it with qi gong movements to support the change in season.

Darcy Cunningham, C-IAYT, ABA Bowenworker
Early in my life I learned that dis-ease comes from a prolonged imbalance between body, mind and soul. Our sufferings are entirely real, and the tools of modern medicine are generally wonderful at treating the acute manifestations of pain, torn tissues, and more. And sometimes it is as simple as that. Other times suffering and pain continue – and that’s the realm in which I am interested.
How do we look beyond the specific tissue damaged and in pain: how do we look to the whole human being, with all our layers of individual complexity and beauty, body, mind, soul, to support the larger system to re-create a balance, an “ease in body, mind, and soul” that brings a more complete healing, better function and more Ease at whatever our stage in life.
Over the years my studies and personal practice keeps evolving, starting with foods and nutrition, an MBA, and including Gestalt Therapy, Family Constellations (we are all influenced by the larger fields in which we live), Yoga (all its branches of body, movement, breath, mind, philosophy), Meditation (mindfulness and beyond), Ayurveda (Yogic science of health), Therapeutic Yoga (its own discipline of Yoga), Somatics, Neurodevelopmental Movement, Bowenwork, MSTR (McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release) and Essential Oils.
Darcy will be offering a therapeutic yoga session where she will support dropping down in, digesting what they have opened into so far in the retreat and time to breath into their pelvic bowl.
